Rizzo Architecture is an inventive design studio with a personal approach that specialises in residential architecture and champions an inclusive ‘design for all’ ethos.
Managed by Davide Rizzo, the studio has a creative, practical and highly-detailed approach which reflects Davide’s own architectural ethos. Born and raised in Sicily, Davide studied at the University of Palermo and University of Navarra (Spain), attracted by its contrasting geography, moved to Scotland in 2005. Once in Glasgow, Davide quickly fell in love with his adopted city and acquired experience working at major architecture practices before establishing his own studio in 2009.

Our approach is always inventive but also practical and attentive to you, with our team striving to produce genuinely meaningful architecture that emphasises space flow, natural lighting and comfort.
We love to resolve complex problems and specialise in working with limited resources, whether budget, materials or restrictive regulations and champion details that ensure a sustainable, low emission project. We develop creative solutions that enter into a dialogue with the existing built environment, always based on a limited palette of materials and a contemporary language which is rich in detail and rooted in a knowledgeable background.
Below is a summary of the key stages of a project and the services that we offer as a practice.
The design process always starts from your specific request and requirements. We are great at listening carefully to you and respond with attentive design solutions.
In order to enable the design we will need to carry out a measuring survey of your property and prepare existing plans. For major projects (i.e. new houses) we may need to commission to others a topographical survey.
Based on your brief we shall prepare a number of options to identify the perfect solution to your needs. As architects we provide inventive input which may have not been considered before. As an option we provide a service which includes a 3D model study. This is a great tool to study volumes and visualise the final result. For bespoke solutions and complex projects we included it as standard.
New builds and extensions require planning permission, except when they are classified as ‘permitted development’. Once a preferred scheme has been identified we shall develop drawings which include information relevant to the planners. We shall then submit a pre-planning enquiry in order to get initial views on the proposal prior to the submission of a formal planning application.
A planning assessment is mainly based on the scale and massing of the proposal; also on the materials used and the general merits of the architectural design; aspects such as overshadowing or privacy of neighbor properties will be assessed by planners to decide the application.
Any new built, extension, conversion or alteration project shall require a building warrant.
At this stage the drawings will be further detailed to include technical details at scale 1:20 and specifications to demonstrate how the project shall meet the relevant building standards. The plans developed at this stage will be fully comprehensive and shall include, among other details, plumbing and electrical layouts, fire safety provision, u-value calculations and full specification for the project.
At this stage a consultant structural engineer will be involved in the project to provide structural design.
We can assist in preparing a scope of work document which describes in a clear way all the categories of work involved in the project, including finishes.
The tender will be sent to a minimum of 3 to 5 reputable builders in order to compare cost like for like and select a competitive and reliable builder for your project. This stage is particularly important and will potentially save you thousands of pounds in your project.
The scope of work will also be the base of the contract and will put you in a position to be in control of what is expected to be done from the builders.
If you are going for a full appointment with us we will pass on to you the trade discounts that we have for finishes such as tiles and flooring.
At this stage we will carry out periodic site visits to make sure that the works are in accordance with the contract. We shall provide the builders and advise on resolution works if any construction issue occurs. We shall assist you until practical completion of the work until a completion certificate will be issued by the building standard officer, which will state the successful completion of the work.
To compliment the core design, we can also offer bespoke detailed design of interior features such as staircases, furniture, kitchens and bathrooms to help you achieve a truly unique project.
