LOCATION: Saint Clair Avenue, Giffnock
TYPE: House Extension
YEAR COMPLETED: 2023
AREA: 230sqm
As a result of a long planning consultation, we designed a tranquil wrap around corner extension and a front addition which gives this traditional house a renovated modern feel.
The wrap around extension with horizontal cladding to the garden counterpoints the vertical proportion of the house which comprises of 3 levels at the rear elevation. In an opposite way the front extension emphasises the vertical line with a corner cladding and a small veranda balcony at first floor.
The project had different level of complexity: the use of ICF ( Insulated Concrete Forms) system for the extension, an existing house with a basement partially below ground and a complex site which required a drainage system for a stream of water running through it.
The converted and extended basement space is now a vital part of the house and provides a direct link to the garden. A feature semi-elliptical metal staircase grandly connects the upper sitting area with the lower open-plan family room creating a continuous flow between levels.
