LOCATION: Bishopbriggs
TYPE: House Extension
YEAR COMPLETED: 2021
AREA: 45sqm
The brief for this project was for a kitchen extension which also had to complement an existing architect designed contemporary dormer.
The extent of the dormer and its materials, the low gutter line and the specific constrains of the site added quite a degree of complexity which we turned as the generative elements for a distinctive and sober extension.
We dimensioned the volume of extension on the dormer size so that it could be read in continuity with it. The flat roof was thought as an intermediate element to introduce a new material which references a close by traditional garden shed.
Subtle changes in the shape of the roof adds more interest to the staggered volume which open-up to provide generous views to the garden.
Internally the extension defines the zones for the kitchen island and dining area creating a cosy space to live in.
