LOCATION: Newlands, Glasgow
TYPE: House Extension
YEAR COMPLETED: Work started 2023
AREA: 25sqm + 30sqm
For this project we had the opportunity to design at the same time 2 extensions for adjoining properties. This gave us the possibility to make each independent extension as part of a wider vision which informed the design of the volumes as if it was a single project.
The existing houses are terraced townhouses and present existing protruding volumes to the garden. Our design reinterprets the geometry of the roof of the original volumes to generate contemporary ones. The design plays with contrasts: the new volumes are clad in solid zinc but have extensive glazed areas, they also have contrasting proportions and shapes which counterbalance and complement each other symbiotically.
Inspired by the urban environment we wanted to replicate, in a small domestic scale, the concept of variety which eventually creates unity.
